完整文章

Climate change is a huge problem for our world. Carbon emissions cause higher temperatures and more extreme(极端的) weather. But scientists have found another big danger : chemical pollution.

A team called Deep Science Ventures studied this problem for eight months . They read many reports and talked to more than 50 experts. They wanted to learn how toxic chemicals hurt humans, other living things and the environment.

Their report says we don't take chemical pollution seriously enough. These chemicals are not only bad for nature—— they also cause more cancer, make it harder for people to have babies, and lead to more long-term diseases.

The researchers found over 3,600 human-made chemicals in things like food packaging. And guess what? The same chemicals are now inside our bodies.80 of them are especially dangerous.

One example is a group of harmful chemicals called PFAS(全氟和多氟烷基物质). They’ re often known as“forever chemicals” because they don’ t go away. Almost all people tested have PFAS in their bodies. Even rainwater in many places has PFAS—— it's not safe to drink.

PFAS can cause liver problems, thyroid disease(甲状腺疾病), obesity, trouble with fertility(生育能力), and cancer.

The report also says that 90% of people breathe air that is more polluted than what the World Health Organization considers safe.

The study also looked at pesticides(杀虫剂). They are used to kill bugs, but they can make people sick too. Using pesticides might be as harmful as smoking when it comes to causing cancer.

Babies who are exposed to these chemicals before they’ re born have a 50% higher risk of getting childhood cancers like leukemia or lymphoma.
