Fighting fires with sound might sound amazing. In San Bernardino County, California, the United States, this new idea is coming true. It can help people put out fires before they spread.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department is now testing a new system (系统). It does not need any water. Instead, it uses special sound waves(声波) to put out fires. It gives people a cleaner, faster and safer way to protect homes.
Here's how it works: fire needs oxygen (氧气) to burn. The system does not take away all oxygen, as this would be dangerous. Instead, it interferes (干扰) with oxygen.
"We vibrate (振动) the oxygen quickly at a rate the fire can't burn it, and it breaks the chemical reaction," explained developer Ryan Remington. It may take the place of traditional sprinkler(喷水灭火装置) systems. Using too much water is bad for houses. And this technology can be used in many more ways.
Fire officials believe this new tool may one day slow down or even stop big forest fires. The system can make a safe area. It can stop fires from starting at once, and it needs no water or chemicals.
Workers are still testing this system. If it works well, the system can not only protect homes better, but also bring us safer and smarter ways to fight fires in the future.
