Tadej Pogačar was born in Slovenia in 1998. When he was in primary school, he showed interest in football. However, his interest changed after watching his older brother train at a cycling club. Determined(决定) to follow in his brother's footsteps, he took up the sport and joined his first cycling club at age 9.
The Tour de France is one of the world's most challenging bicycle races, as bikers have to race up and down mountains, on windy and dangerous roads. It is held in France every summer. Every day of the race, riders finish a different part of the race, called a “stage(赛段)”. Every stage has its own winner. The cumulative(累计的) time across all stages determines who the final winner is. The bikers work in teams. Usually each team has a leader and the other team members work to help the leader win. Teamwork is very important. Sometimes one biker will go in front to surprise others from the wind. Sometimes a biker will go as quickly as he can to get a good time or to tire out the bikers of other teams.
Starting on July 5, this year's men's race ended on July 27 with Pogačar winning the race for the fourth time. It lasted over three weeks and covered over 3,000 kilometers with 21 stages. Pogačar's winning time was 76 hours and 32 seconds. That was 4 minutes and 24 seconds faster than Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard, the second winner.
Only five riders in history have won the race five times. Many believe Pogačar might soon join them.
